SCOPE OF DIPLOMA IN PHARMACY


A Pharmacist is a link between a Physician and the Patient. The pharmacy career will have openings in / as :

1. Community Pharmacist – He can get self employed by opening his own Retail Medical Store.
2. Hospital Pharmacist – Can have a scope in central dispensing area of a hospital where he can engage himself in dispensing the prescribed medicine. Also in a hospital, he can be engaged with the patients, or in obtaining patient medical history and in assisting the physician to select dosage regimen and schedules.
3. Whole sale pharmacy – offers opportunity to serve as a middle man between manufacturer and community pharmacists.
4. In Industry – In Marketing and Administration as Medical Representatives or as Sales Representative, who is in contact with the physician. This can be a rewarding career for persons with the right personality and inclination. It is also a stepping stone for higher position in sales.
5. Laboratory Technicians – Can serve as a drug store incharge in government organizations or as a laboratory technician in various departments of a government hospital, laboratories, pharmacy colleges, etc.
6. Repackaging unit – can get the license for repacking of bulk drugs or chemicals as a self employment.
7. With the knowledge of physiology and hygiene, pharmacist can play a vital role in prevention of infection and in education of people. This can be done by co-ordinating himself with medical health centers, dispensaries and hospitals. Also, population being the top priority problem of our country, as pharmacist can promote family planning by getting attached to a medical centre.

ABOUT D.PHARMACY COLLEGE
LOCATION
The College of pharmacy is centrally located in the heart of Mumbai city. It is very near to Mumbai Central railway station and S.T. Depot. Tardeo is a residential and commercial area. The college premises are situated in M.P.Mill compound behind the Tardeo Air Conditioned Market, which is linked by several bus routes to different parts of Mumbai city.
 
LIBRARY
The department of pharmacy provides adequate library facilities to the staff and students. Selected books recommended by experts in the field are available in the library. The institute aims at increasing its stocks, year after year. The library also subscribes well known journals and periodicals from the field of pharmacy.
 
SPORTS
In the department of pharmacy, sports feature prominently amongst the extra curricular activities. Various events in sports are held annually. A majority of the students are sport enthusiasts and actively participate in such events. All the winners are suitably rewarded.
 
NUMBER OF SEATS
Sixty seats are available for Diploma in Pharmacy.
 
DURATION OF THE COURSE
Diploma in Pharmacy (part I and II) Two academic years (180 working days). Diploma in Pharmacy (part III) includes practical training for 500 hours spread over a period of not less than three months in any hospital, pharmacy, chemist and druggist and drugs manufacturing unit licensed under the Drugs and Cosmetics Rules 1945 made under the Drugs and Cosmetics Act, 1949; recognized by the Pharmacy Council of India.
 
TERMS OF COURSE
Each academic year will be spread over a period of not less than one hundred and eighty working days. It is a full-time course with lectures and practicals for almost six days a week. A candidate admitted to Diploma in Pharmacy will have to pass two examinations of the Maharashtra State Board of Technical Education, viz. Diploma in Pharmacy (part I) and Diploma in Pharmacy (part II).
